I suffer from incontinence and I’m going abroad with family this summer. I’m worrying about leaking while travelling especially and wondered if you had any advice to help with this experience?
Are any products available to offer additional protection as well as normal incontinence pants?
You shouldn’t let the worry of leakages get in the way of your holiday!
If you are travelling on an aeroplane, one thing you can do is call your airline and ask about the configuration of the plane. Finding out the location of the restrooms can settle your nerves and make you feel more prepared for the journey. If you can, swap with the person you are travelling with to ensure you are next to the aisle.
If you are in a car for your journey, it can be invaluable to research the locations of the services you can visit during your journey. A journey is much less worrisome if you have planned intervals.
Watching what you are eating and drink during travelling can also make a huge difference. Ensure you avoid caffeinated and sugary drinks, which can be tempting to buy on aeroplanes in particular. Do not hold off drinking water during your journey, as dehydration can only cause further irritation to the bladder. Avoid heavy meals when travelling and stick to lighter meals to avoid feeling uncomfortable.
Lastly, ask your Doctor for any additional aids you can take on holiday to make your trip less stressful. Are you currently taking medication for your incontinence? This can be effective as it is easy and quick to take.
You mention that are looking for additional protection as well as pants. What are the pants called that you are currently wearing?
There is a large range of incontinence pads that can be used with your current pants. What is the severity of your incontinence? I am more than happy to recommend you a specific pad.
