You should generally see improvements after 8 weeks, so ensure you visit a professional to talk about this.
Did your Doctor discuss other treatment options, such as surgery?
If anyone else has taken this for incontinence it would be great to hear your experience.
My Gp suggested that I give the tablets a go for a few months, but I’m still having problems. On examination, I was told that I have a slight cystocele, but the GP was not concerned about it.
I do my pelvic floor exercises every day, as advised.
I take 5mg in the mornings, and the same at night. There has been no mention of surgical treatments as an option at this stage.
I also have lower back pain, but again my GP says there is no link . She did send off some blood tests and urine tests, and they came back clear.
My worst experience, to date, was yesterday, when out for a walk. Without warning, I suddenly realised my bladder was emptying, and there was nothing I could do. I always wear Tena every day, but it was soaked through, as well as my trousers.
This has really started to affect my daily life now.
Hi,
The cystocele that your GP found is the dropping of the bladder into the vagina. These usually result from damage to the muscles and tissues that hold the pelvic organs up. Your muscles may have been stretched a lot and have become weakened.
If you are seeing no improvement with tablets, you do need to ask about surgery options from your GP. If your GP cannot suggest any treatment, you can visit a Urologist. Talk to a Urologist about your cystocele, as it may require surgery to erase incontinence.
You should not have to live with incontinence, so keep talking to professionals.
Do you need any guidance for choosing better protection in the meantime?
Hello again
Thanks for your reply….I have been to see GP this morning….a different one at my surgery. She examined me, and has prescribed Oestragel for me,as I have post-menopausal thinning, to use alongside the Oxybutynin. She has also referred me to hospital for Urology investigation ( as you also suggested). I will use NHS Choose and Book system to arrange an appointment. She mentioned something called Urodynamics, and I will be googling this a bit later !
I have to return to see the same GP in 6 weeks, to see if the Oestragel has made any difference. I was also interested to hear her say that the lower back pain could also be linked.
I am relieved that I am now going to get this looked at properly, although I am nervous at the thought of needing any surgery.
I will look at buying better protection to use when going out walking.
