I have been dribbling on a night for some time now. I have had type 2 diabetes for 16 years and in the last 6 months or so i have started with ‘incontinence’ its only really through the night and only usually light (depending on how much i’ve drank before bed) doesn’t wake me up but im wet when i do wake up. Can my diabetes be causing this? just wondering if its some sort of ‘side affect’?

In type 2 Diabetes, your levels of blood sugar rise due to the body’s ineffective use of insulin. This high blood sugar can increase the amount of urine produced, which can cause a lack of bladder control.
Type 2 Diabetes is strongly linked to a high body mass index, which is one of the most common causes of incontinence. Interestingly, each 5-unit increase in body mass index is associated with an incontinence prevalence risk of up to 50%. Increased weight causes additional stress to be placed on a person’s pelvic floor muscles, which support the pelvic organs.
Frequent constipation and congestive heart failure from Diabetes-related coronary artery disease are common risk factors. Have you experienced any of these?
Have you had any issues with mobility? This, along with pregnancy in individuals with Diabetes can be another risk factor.

Although your Diabetes is likely causing your incontinence, it is important to visit a Doctor and ensure there is no other underlying health condition causing this. You also need to ensure you do not have an infection such as a urinary tract infection causing this.
