I am 10 weeks post op after 40% of my bladder was removed due to cancer. I had a catheter for 7 weeks and now I am having incontinence problems. Mostly when I stand up and when I go to get out of bed at night to go to the bathroom.
It’s getting me down. Any advice please.
Sorry for your difficult situation. You are not alone in having incontinence, and can speak to people on this forum who are in a similar situation to you.
Although it’s difficult, keep on trying with the pelvic floor muscles and definitely ask about biofeedback. This is a program that ensures you are doing these right to speed up recovery.
Your ability to maintain bladder control should improve significantly with time. Normally, continence returns in 3 phases: Phase I- dry when lying down; Phase 2- dry when walking, Phase 3 – dry when you rise from a seated position, cough or exercise. Most people take around 3 months to gain full bladder control.
