Hi, I really need help and I am at my wits end. My mum lives on her own and is heavily faecal and urinary incontinent after surgery for bowel cancer. She is pretty much immobile, in a wheelchair due to Parkinson’s disease and needs me almost 24/7. This is so difficult as I am single mother to 3 with a part time job due to having to make more time for her. If anyone has any tips at all on how I can help her..it would be appreciated, thanks
Sorry to hear you are in this situation. You are not alone in struggling to take care of someone with incontinence, there is help out there.
As you are struggling with the time available to look after her, talk to your family and friends to see if anyone can step in. You could also contact their Doctor and see if bladder training or medication are possible options. It would be worth asking about getting a Nurse to regularly attend to your mum.
You could also look at taking a class or attending a support group so you can learn more skills on managing incontinence.
Do you need help on choosing a product for her?
You can ring the carer’s direct helpline on 0300 123 1053 if you are need of urgent help.
