Hi,
I’m a currently at university living with friends and I’m finding that I’m wetting the bed almost every night it stated a couple of months ago and I don’t know why. I’m really embarrassed about this I’m thinking of going to the doctors but the thought of admitting this is terrifying to me. In the mean time I need to find something to protect me at night!! My normal sanitary pads aren’t working at all. I don’t want my house mates to find out about this!!
Hi,
Incontinence can be hard and embarrassing to manage, especially due to the stigma attached to it. However, you are not alone in experiencing this as a young person. 6% of women between the ages of 15 and 44 experience incontinence at some point. Do not worry, there will be a product out that there to provide you with discretion.
It may be embarrassing to talk about, however seeing a Doctor is a vital step forward. You need to find the underlying cause of this problem and ensure there are no health problems that need to be addressed.
You should not settle for sanitary products to manage incontinence. They are not designed to absorb urine, and you deserve to have a product that keeps you dry and comfortable.
Do you just experience night time leakage (nocturnal enuresis), or do you leak during the day as well?
Your ideal product depends on your mobility and the severity of your leaks. Do you have an active lifestyle and are your leaks light or heavy?
For nighttime leaks, all in ones are the most effective in absorbing the liquid overnight. However, for lighter leaks, a pad is much more discreet and ideal.
I can recommend a product for you if you let me know your mobility and severity level.
In the meantime, feel free to read our blog about treating nighttime incontinence for useful tips.
So far i have only experienced the leakages at night and id like to think its not that heavy but my normal pad inst working and my bed ends up getting wet which is difficult trying to wash my bedding almost every day without my friends wondering why. Do you think a different pad would be ok in my situation? I really don’t want to have to wear a pull up at my age. Its really getting me down.
Thank you for you help!
Do you know the name of the pad you are currently wearing? A pad may be suitable, it might be that you are not wearing a pad of the correct absorbency.
If you let me know what product you are currently in, I can give you some recommendations for more absorbent options. Do not worry, there is likely a pad that is suitable for you so you won’t have to wear a pull-up.
You need to be in a proper incontinence product to ensure you’re getting suitable protection. Sanitary products are not designed to absorb urine, so will not provide enough protection.
For light incontinence, you could try the Lille Suprem Light Pads. These are anatomically shaped and are discreet, so you won’t have to worry about your friends finding out. Lille Suprem Light Extra would be reliable to try first, especially if you are wearing them at night time.
Are you planning on buying these in a store? Let me know if you need any suggestions on where to purchase these.
