Hi all. I am a 37 year old mum of 6 year old twin girls. For the last couple of years my stress incontinece seems to have been getting gradually worse. The last 6 months however, has been a nightmare. I lean quite a large amount of urine when laughing, sneezing, coughing, even just clearing my throat or if I shuffle my position when sitting on the sofa etc. I’m spending a fortune on pads and I’d i forget to put one on before leaving the house, as soon as I stand up out of the car…it’s like a flood! It’s really ruling my life right now. My dr said I do have a prolapse but I’ve got to go and see someone at an incontinence clinic first to make sure I’m doing everything right so I can try more exercises etc first, before considering surgery. Is it likely that the specific exercises will help?
Hi,
Thank you for your question.
What exercises have you tried so far?
Definitely visit the professional to ensure you are doing your exercises correctly, as this can sometimes be the problem and prevent improvement. You might be using the wrong muscles in your exercises. Trying as many exercises as possible is definitely recommended, as this is much less invasive than surgery. They are effective in most cases.
When you are with the professional, talk through your options of surgery to look at if the exercises do not work. You can find some stress incontinence surgery options here.
