Over the past couple of months, I’ve recently become incontinent. I’ve had medical tests and there doesn’t seem to be a underlaying reason as to why this has happened. The hospital has advised me to just start wearing incontinence pants or pads but I have no idea where to start this is brand new to me. What pants or pads are right for me? where do I buy them? I really don’t want to be going into a shop to buy them personally! I’m only 42. Please help!!
Hi,
Sorry to hear this is worrying you. It can be hard to know the right approach to managing incontinence, especially if the condition is new to you.
As for establishing the cause, it is useful to know which type of incontinence you have. Have you been diagnosed with a certain type? Feel free to read our blogs about the following main types:
There are many online websites that sell a variety of products. This means you can avoid the embarrassment of buying them in a shop. Some popular websites are Allanda and Incontinence Supermarket.
The correct pants or pads depends on your mobility and how severe your leaks are. Would you say you are quite mobile? Is your incontinence light or heavy?
They said it was urge incontinence as i randomly feel like i need to go and most of the time unable to get to the toilet in time. I get little warning when i do need to. I have taken a look at the websites you advised i’m just a little under what the right direction for me is as there is a large range of products. I’m totally mobile and would say that my my incontinence can be quiet heavy! 🙁 any suggestions?
All in ones (nappy style products) are often the most absorbent products for heavy urge incontinence. As you are quite mobile, however, you would benefit from a product that is designed for an active lifestyle.
Have you heard of pull up pants? They are designed just like underwear and allow freedom of movement. You can purchase highly absorbent pants for heavy incontinence. iD Pants Maxi are a popular product for managing heavy incontinence. There are also pull up pants that are designed specifically for men or women. Have a look at this range of pull up pants to find a product you would be comfortable in.
Do you like the look of any of these products? Do not hesitate to ask for further advice on product and size recommendations.
All in ones are normally very secure and will not come loose. However, a pull up pant would be much more comfortable for you if you have an active lifestyle. They are designed to provide freedom of movement and they provide a stretchy feel so will not feel bulky.
Would you be willing to try a pull up? Yes, a medium size would be ideal for you.
The breathable ones tend to sag for me. Tena’s plastic backed ‘Active Fit’ range are a lifesaver for me. I’m an active 43 year old who walks about 12 miles a day and they never snag, droop, catch, etc. I’d rather be wearing Calvins but the Tenas are pretty amazing at their job so can’t complain too much!
