Hello, after having stress incontinence for 6 years I am now on the waiting list for surgery. If anyone else has had this surgery, please can you tell me what the recovery was like, how long you stayed off work, etc. I’m 34 and have two young children!
Hi Catherine,
That’s great that you are finally getting surgery. Do you know the name of the surgery procedure you are having?
It would be great to hear from others on here about their experiences if anyone has had incontinence surgery.
People are usually off work for about 4-6 weeks after surgery. This depends however on whether your job is busy and requires lots of activity. People can often return to light jobs after a few weeks, however a busy job can require twice as much time off.
You should ask your specialist about returning to work; they can provide guidance based on the nature of your job and can provide you with a sick note.
After surgery, gentle walking is encouraged to reduce the risk of blood clots. However, strenuous activity should be avoided.
Let me know if you need any more advice on the recovery process.
