Hi everyone I used to wet the bed as a child I don’t think that’s relevant but just incase. I have anxiety and depression and I might have PTSD from childhood Trauma. I have been wetting the bed in the last week about 4 times now and I done the obvious and cut my fluids in the night and made sure I went to toilet before going to bed although I usually go to toilet anyway. I think it’s from anxiety and depression but could be wrong, I try not too read to much because everything tends to lead to cancer according to the Internet. They said that you might have a physical exam and some other tests to check for symptoms like infection or enlarged prostate etc. I really don’t want to go to the DR but think I have to, has anyone had a sudden onset of bed wetting? What happens at the DR, what do they do? Also Is it best to wear some sort of absorbent material thank you I’m only 31 so I am sorry if this is insulting but I read a lot about this with the older generation which usually comes up or kids but seems as I’m neither I don’t k ow what to do thanks.
Hi Cody,
Don’t be scared of visiting a Doctor, bed wetting is much more common than you think. The NHS estimates that between 3 and 6 million people in the UK have some degree of urinary incontinence. Stress and trauma are common causes of bed wetting, and the bed wetting can often occur years after.
It is important however, to ensure there is no serious underlying cause that needs to be treated. A Doctor will try and find the underlying cause and will provide you with the best treatment option.
I would recommend finding ideal protection. For bed wetting, an all in one pad or a pull up pant are the best options. All in ones are the most absorbent, and pants are designed to feel like underwear. You can also buy bed pads.
If you need any tips on choosing a product, don’t hesitate to ask.
Your sad story is similar to mine. I had a verbally abusive mother who threatened to mutilate me in a private area if I didn`t stop bed wetting. I became dry at night when I was six but, because of the PTSD, had wetting episodes in my teens and in later life. For sure, see a doctor to eliminate physical causes, but use nighttime protection so that you can get a decent night`s sleep. Don`t be ashamed or embarrassed about your condition, it`s very common – I still wet my nappy at night if I have a nightmare related to my childhood experiences. But at least the bed is kept dry, which is the main thing. Hope this helps.
Hi thank you very much both I find your answers very helpful and after more research i realise more people wet the bed than I realise. Do you know how common it is for wetting with depression and anxiety. I may be wrong I know their are tests that need to be done. What tests need to be done do you know and how are they done. I can’t really remember as a kid it’s just giving me complete anxiety now and I know I shouldn’t worry I just can’t help it. As for the pads and Nappies I am not sure what my partner will think I know she knows about wetting anyway but do you have a partner are they understanding. I’m sorry if this sounds so unnecessary to worry I just do. Can I be honest how do Nappies work I don’t have kids and I have never put a nappy on can I get instructions somewhere.
Hi Cody,
My partner is very understanding and is well used to seeing me in a slip and plastic pants which I wear at night for extra peace of mind. Slips (nappies) are a cinch to put on and there are instructions on the packaging anyway on how to put one on. I can`t offer anything on the anxiety/depression issue but having a nappy on at night will certainly help the relaxation process before you go to sleep.
It’s great to know your partner is understanding my partner is understanding as well. I actually went to the dr today it wasn’t too bad I guess I’m just not used to it. He had a urine sample and he felt around my stomach and kidneys then he also examined my penis. It’s not something I am comfortable with but at least I went. I am going to have blood tests and may have to go to a specialist but will see.
