I’ve recently started experiencing bladder problems I’m unsure why :/ I know men can experience problems in later life but I wasn’t expecting it so soon. I’m booked in to see my doctor soon but I’m just wondering for what reasons do men experience bladder problems? Does anyone have any personal experiences which lead to bladder issues. I’m a little concerned and just trying to understand things a little better.
Cheers Tom.
Hi Tom,
Prostate problems are a common cause of incontinence in men. As men age, the prostate gland can become enlarged. This squeezes the urethra and affects the urinary system. It is common for lower urinary tract symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate gland to occur in men older than 40. If you have had prostate cancer and prostate surgery, incontinence is a very common side effect. Although possible, incontinence is not always caused by prostate problems, so do not worry.
Nerve problems are another common cause of incontinence in men and can occur at any age. Diseases such as Diabetes, Stroke, Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis can cause nerve damage. Have you had any accidents or injuries recently? Spinal cord injuries can also cause incontinence.
What type of incontinence are you suffering from? Is it in the daytime or night time? It might even be caused by simple lifestyle habits you are used to.
Hello, I haven’t had cancer or any injuries or anything which is why this has baffled me. I’m assuming ill be tested further when i eventually get round to going to the doctors. Its mostly urine leakages what can happen day or night sometimes the leakages are quiet heavy though which has caused me a few embarrassing moments. Is this normal? i’m getting a little worried to be honest.
Although quite common, incontinence is not a normal part of getting older.
It can be vital to talk to a professional about it, as they can pinpoint the cause and point you in the right direction. It may just be a small problem, however it is best to ensure it is no condition that requires a procedure.
When are you visiting your Doctor? Let me know how your appointment goes!
Are you fairly active? For a discreet product, pull up pants can be a perfect option. They can provide more protection than an ordinary pad and are less bulky than an all in one. They are designed just like normal underwear, however are slightly harder to put on and take off than pads.
Do you these sound like something you’d be willing to try?
