I am 9 months pregnant and since I have been around 7 months pregnant, I wipe and wipe and think I am clean, but hours later, I find stool has leaked. Not loads, but enough to stain pants and to still be on the toilet paper. It is really getting me down. I use paper towels, moist towelettes and also have a bidet, so it is not as if I am not trying. Please tell me this is caused by pregnancy. I do have a couple of haemorrhoids and the whole area has ‘swelled’ on some days. Just feel really down.
Hi,
Unwanted faecal leaks can often be caused by pregnancy, as pregnancy adds stress the pelvic floor muscles. Constipation can add to this and weaken them further, sometimes leading to incontinence.
Hemorrhoids that have prolapsed can be another cause of incontinence, so I would recommend visiting a Doctor for an examination to determine what is causing the leaks. Doctors often recommend drinking more liquid and consuming more fibre.
In the meantime, purchasing some pads for faecal leaks can help you feel more confident and relaxed.
