My daughter, who is 10 has recently started to have accidents during the day. She doesn’t always feel like she needs a wee, but it just happens. Not sure if i should discuss this with the doctor or if it’s just a phase she’s going through. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is starting to affect her confidence now.
That’s great, it should put you on the right track to finding a solution! If your child is worried about wearing a nappy, you could try an incontinence pad. These are much more discreet and small, so she won’t have to worry about them being seen by others.
Are her leakages fairly light or would you say they’re on the heavier side?
You can definitely monitor your child’s diet, which can be highly effective. Does your daughter have a lot of sugar and caffeine frequently? These are common irritants.
Biofeedback and behavioural modification are recommended treatment methods for children. These include practicing pelvic floor exercises and learning to gradually hold on longer before visiting the toilet. You can read about how to do pelvic floor exercises here.
