I have had incontinence training today and we have been told my the trainer that double padding a client in their own home, even with capacity is classed as abuse, I thought this only applied to clients in nursing or residential homes.
Hi,
Sorry for the delay in answering your question. We have spoken to one of our Nurses and she has provided us with the following answer:
Double padding is not advised in any situation, regardless of where the client lives & who is applying the continence pad. Only one pad at a time should be worn & should be placed either inside close fitting underwear or fixation net pants, or fastened with tapes, depending on pad type. The potential risks to the client from double padding are skin damage & increased pad leakage due to poor placement of pads. If the client is choosing to double pad to obtain a higher absorbency from their products, this will not be achieved due to the waterproof backing on the pad. These clients may benefit from a continence reassessment.
