So, here goes. Never really used a forum before, but thought I’d give it a try. Anyone here experienced total embarrassment about the whole incontinence thing? When I thought of incontinence, I just thought it meant people who have no control over toileting. I didn’t realise the many different types and levels people have. Crikey, I am so confused, but too embarrassed to speak about it to anyone. Does this ever stop? Is there any light at the end of the tunnel or am I stuck with using these awful pads for ever?
I feel your pain. I suffer from urinal incontinence (stress incontinence) ever since having my two girls. Its especially hard when they’re wanting to go to the park and wanting me to play with them. I only have to cough and i wet myself. Its not heavy but sometimes has leaked through to my trousers and its been so embarrassing. I have no idea if this will be forever either. Its awful. Sandra x
Hi,
It is estimated that 3 and 6 million people in the UK have some degree of incontinence, so don’t feel weird or embarrassed!
You can read all about the different types of incontinence here if you want to compare your symptoms to each type.
Do you know anything about the cause of your incontinence; did your incontinence start after a specific event or accident?
Do you have urinary incontinence or faecal incontinence? If you could also let me know how heavy your leaks are, I can suggest some treatment options for you!
Don’t worry, in many cases incontinence is treatable and can be managed with the right approach.
Thanks for you reply. There hasn’t been any specific thing that has caused me to start with incontinence. It is just bladder. I really don’t think I could cope very well if it was bowel as well. I don’t have large accidents where I fully wee myself, but my pants are always wet and uncomfortable if I don’t wear a pad. I describe it a little bit like a tap that hasn’t been fully turned off LOL. Some how it just seems to drip quite alot through out the day. Not sure what kind this is classed as. I’m just buying the pads from the supermarket at the moment. Totally uncomfortable and very large, which makes me paranoid that people can see it. Any suggestions as to other things I could maybe try?
Have you heard of pull up pants? These might be ideal for you if you are self conscious wearing pads. They are designed just like normal underwear, providing discretion and freedom of movement. Pull up pants are designed with a stretchy material, ensuring comfort. They can replace your normal underwear. Do you think you’d be willing to try these?
A lot more thought seems to be going into the protective underwear for ladies than there is for men but they seem to be very effective and they are trying to make them look like normal panties you just have to be prepared to carry some with you and change a wet pair as soon as you can…there are so many people trying to deal with incontinence alone….I understand how embarrassing it is but forums like this make it easier to chat about it and hopefully put you at ease about dealing with it so well done for joining in and asking a question 🙂
