I’m 13 and recently i have begun to wet the bed again. I started a month ago and over the last week i have begun to wet myself during the day. First time i realised as i started peeing but today i was walking out of my front door to the shops and i realised only when i heard the pee dripping on the floor. No warning just complete loss of bladder control. Please advise
Hi Emily, I’m 18 and I’ve had incontinence of the bladder for as long as I can remember. Mine is often triggered by laughter, but also random spasms which sound more like what you describe. It wasn’t until I was 15 that I eventually saw a urologist and they gave some helpful advice – before that some GPs and some family ‘blamed’ me for it, saying I wasn’t going to the toilet enough, etc, and other unhelpful bs. I think talking to a medical practitioner would help as a urologist could identify how best to help you and what the cause might be, and psychologically having my incontinence taken seriously by someone really helped me, so might help you too. This might be difficult due in lockdown but you can get online appointments with a GP and if they are not much help then you can ask to be referred to a urologist. There are so many potential causes that it’s hard to narrow it down, sometimes stress is a factor, sometimes there are issues that could show up on scans etc, even caffeine can sometimes trigger spasms. For me cutting out caffeine from my diet helped, as did the pelvic floor exercises, but you really need an expert to advise you who can make suggestions based on your circumstances. I don’t have much experience with using tena pads etc but it sounds very sensible. Stay strong emily x
