I am looking for advice regarding my 85 year old mother.
Unfortunately she has restricted mobility and getting to the toilet is proving a huge problem for her and causing her a great deal anxiety. She is on strong water tablets and has to pee all the time. We have a camode next to her rise and fall chair in her lounge and this is manageable for her if she only needs to pee. The problem comes when she needs a No.2. Although there is a downstairs toilet and a stair lift to get to both toilets in the house she struggles to get there and inevitably has to sometimes use her commode. This has obvious hygiene issues and she feels that it is very degrading for her. Does anyone have similar problems or more importantly suggested solutions? Many Thanks.
Hi,
Would you consider providing your mother with an incontinence product specially designed for faecal incontinence? These can be useful for the times she doesn’t make it to the toilet, and can help put her mind at rest. Let me know if you would like more information on these.
Does your mother live alone? It can be helpful to build going to the toilet into her daily routine. If anyone is there to look after her, they could take her to the toilet a few minutes after every meal to prevent the risk of faecal accidents.
