hi everyone. I think my mum (aged 72) may have incontinence. I found some small pads in the bathroom of her house and recently noticed she had wet herself as she changed her trousers while I was at her house. The house also has a bad odour and i don’t think she’s being very hygienic. shall I mention it to her or leave it alone?
Hi,
Thank you for your question.
Does she live with anyone else? If so, it might be a good idea to talk to her partner about it if you think she would prefer this.
If not, you do need to suggest something. Make sure you are understanding and considerate rather than judgmental. If she is leaking through her pads, she doesn’t have enough protection. Does she have low mobility or is she quite active? If you could let me know this, I can recommend a product for her.
You also need to suggest hygiene and cleansing options for her. You can read about the importance of using incontinence skin care products here.
