I started using a slip pad just over a month ago for minor leaks and urges, but since I have I’m finding that I’m leaking more often, leading to actually wetting myself with no control. It’s got to a point where I’m now buying higher protection nappies as I can’t seem to control the urge and I empty my bladder. I don’t know whether this is due to becoming more comfortable and confident now I’m wearing protection, as it’s been a life saver in so many occasions. Is this a common problem when you start using protection?
Hi Dave
Initially my problems were at night. I had wet the bed as a child and occasionally in my teenage years but then as a young adult I fractured my neck and that was when I started wetting the bed every night. I have always used the all-in-one adult nappy type pads and currently use the TENA Slip Maxi Active Fit. Over the years I have had further problems with my spine and I know that when I started to wet during the day – urgency and a general lack of feeling that I needed to wee – and started to wear adult nappies during the day time too there were occasions when, because I knew I was wearing protection, I did not worry about trying to find a loo and regularly empty my bladder and just wet the nappy. Now I don’t have any feeling/warning of needing to wee and wearing protection is just a part of day to day life. Finding the right protection is the key to being confident and comfortable with managing one’s incontinence.
Hi Adfw
Again, thanks for your advice. I’m starting to become a lot more confident wetting myself which I think may be the problem, which has led to using the higher protection nappies, and I’m no longer having to rush to the toilet. I just don’t want to become too reliant on wearing nappies as I do try to get to the loo as soon as I can, though often it’s too late and I feel I’m no longer in control. It’s so much better that I can now go about my day without worrying about my incontinence. I have found Tena a lot more discreet than other sites to other products, so I’ll look into the Max Active Fit like you suggested.
Thanks again, much appreciated.
Hi Dave
How are you getting on?
Do you know that you can get incontinence pads on the NHS? You need to speak to the local continence adviser and they will assess you and your needs.
I get my TENA Slip Maxi Active Fit supplied by the NHS though you do sometimes have to fight to get the best products as some of the adult nappies that supply are not great.
Hi Adfw
I’m doing a fluid input/output chart at the moment so the doctor can understand what’s going on. Not sure whether I meet the criteria for prescription on the NHS, but it would be so much cheaper as I’m having to change my nappy more often.
Thanks again for the advice mate
Dave
Hi Adfw
Just letting you know I took your advice, and I’m now using Tena Slip Maxi as my incontinence has gradually gotten worse. So much more comfortable and reliable, and they do work out cheaper than pull ups. I appreciate the advice mate so thank you.
Cheers
Dave
