Hi,
It is normal for men not be able to control their bladder straight after a catheter is removed, and surgery can damage the muscles and nerves.
His leaking will improve with time, and most people see improvement one to six months after surgery.
Did the hospital provide him with incontinence pads? Practising pelvic floor exercises will help speed up his recovery, and he can also ask the Doctor about any possible medications to keep the urethra closed. Urinary sheaths are another option, which are common external catheters which you can ask a Doctor about.
Let me know if you need any more help with this.
