Hello,
I hope you can help. My wife has multiple sclerosis and recently she seems to be suffering with bladder incontinence. When it happens large amounts of urine leaks but she has hardly any warning. I’m completely new to this and am unsure If this could be linked or what products I need to purchase to help her?
Hi,
Yes, experiencing incontinence is common in people with Multiple Sclerosis. Your wife is definitely not alone in having this.
You mention her having no warning prior to the heavy leaks, which is a symptom overflow incontinence. Do not worry, this can be treated in many cases and is very common. You can read more about the symptoms of overflow incontinence here.
As your wife has large leakages, she requires products with a high absorbency level. The most absorbent products available are all-in-ones, which fit completely around the body and can be fastened with tapes. Alternatively, if she would prefer the feel of stretchy pants, you can purchase pull up pants.
The product you choose depends strongly on an individual’s mobility. Is your wife mobile and active or immobile?
Yes, pull-ups can be harder to put on for individuals who are less mobile. All in ones feature velcro fixation, enabling normal toilet use without full product removal. With two tabs on each hip, they stay secure throughout the day. This will be a time-saving option for her.
As your wife has large leaks, it is ideal for you to purchase an all in one with a high absorbency. Ensure you choose an all in one with a “Maxi” rating. Some popular all in ones for heavy/severe incontinence are Lille Suprem Fit Maxi, Tena Flex Maxi and iD Innofit Maxi.
Are you confident about choosing your wife’s size? Do not hesitate to ask if you have any more queries.
Oh i was worrying using the all in ones she wouldn’t be able to use the toilet normal if needed. That’s great to know. I’m not really confident with any of this as its new to us both. Shes a size 14. what would you recommend?
