My mother is 65 and for the last 9 years has had incontinence which is steadily getting worse.
It started with her being bladder incontinent and now she’s at the point now where she is fecal incontinent to the point where she is unable to get to the toilet in time. She has severe mobility issues, arthritis in both knees, hip issues. Severely overweight and cannot clean up after herself. She was in hospital last week for an extremely high heart rate and now shes on medication to bring it down.
She has a carer 3 days a week but the carer just makes sure she’s alive and does a bit of light housework.
I don’t know what to do, I live far away and visit when I can and I’m trying to get her to move closer to me.
Does anyone have any advice?
I would definitely recommend talking to your district nurse and asking about extra help, as your mother needs someone to visit daily who can help manage her incontinence. You can also ring the NHS number on 0300 311 22 33 to talk to a professional.
Does your mother have a commode? This would really help prevent accidents.
What product is she currently wearing? An all in one (nappy style product) would be the most ideal for her. Let me know if you need any more guidance on taking care of her.
