Can anyone recommend the best overnight nappy/diaper that won’t leak even if I sleep on my side?
The best solution for me are Terry cloth nappies and plastic pants. I get no leakage. I turn all night. The nappies are bulky and you have the problem of washing. I use a liquid detergent in a bucket and after rinsing in the bath do a wash every 4 days. It is this or leaks. It is working well. I tried every disposable you can think of.
Most I use never cause me overnight leak problems, I normally wear north shore mega max, ABU simple ultra or dotty plain and simple.
I can recommend Lille (aka Ontex) Suprem for Men SUPER. Not Suprem for Men ‘Extra’. These are a unique design, but not easily available, most adverts for Lille Suprem for Men are for ‘Extra’ – the ‘Super’ version packaging looks identical apart from a small line diagram bottom right, and they are often confused even by suppliers.
In fact I recommend the ‘Super’ version for all use. Don’t be attracted by the ‘shaped’ hype. All pads other than Lille Super don’t actually surround the penis, they just are on one side on the front – the urine also soaks into the pubic hair and wets your belly on the inner side of your penis.
They have an unusual design, that one might hesitate about using, of a folded tube (it is difficult to describe – imagine a flattened Greek capital Omega) where you put your penis into a central slot, so it is completely enveloped – what is against your belly is pad not penis. It is also extremely simple to make, being just continuously extruded, and so is cheaper. And you can reposition it so an unused portion is next to your penis, (they are longer than normal) so it is economical too. At night, on your side, your penis drops into a sort of padded groove (again difficult to describe).
Unfortunately, because they are unusual and different from the heavily advertised brands, they are difficult to find. In fact they are unobtainable in Britain, I buy mine from Citycare24 in Germany. Even post Brexit the price is reasonable 23.70 Euros for 147 plus 16.99 Euros shipping, and they come in 3 days.
But I must stress – be careful not to buy the ‘Extra’ version – it has to be ‘Super’.
I use the TENA Slip Maxi Active fit with the plastic backing not the cloth feel. This is essentially an adult nappy. I get them on the NHS. They do occasionally leak a bit when I sleep on my side so I also use a washable absorbent bed pad just in case. I also occasionally wear Terry lined plastic pants over the TENA Slip, especially if I have had a few drinks as this always makes my wetting worse. It its not unusual for me to go through two pads a night anyway as I have no feeling of needing to go. I tried Terry/cloth nappies and plastic pants but just found them to bulky and tiresome to wash. I also found that they did not wick away and hold the amount of urine I was leaking over the course of the night. It’s all a personal choice and finding what works best for you. What works for one may not work best for another.
